Position: Fleet Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician
Compensation: $36.-$40. an hour depending on experience, plus paid overtime

About EW Audet & Sons:

EW Audet & Sons is seeking an experienced and dependable Fleet Mechanic / Fleet Maintenance Technician to maintain our diverse fleet of gas- and diesel-powered vehicles and construction equipment.

This is a hands-on position for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment properly inspected, safely maintained, and ready for use. The right candidate will have experience working on both gas and diesel engines and be comfortable performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and coordinating required inspections.

Our fleet includes a combination of commercial vehicles, specialized utility equipment, construction equipment, trailers, and support vehicles.

Our Fleet Includes:

• 5 bucket trucks
• 2 digger derricks
• 1 crane
• 20+ trucks and vans
• 2 excavators
• Backhoe
• Skid steers
• Lull
• 2 forklifts
• Large wire pullers
• 10+ trailers, including enclosed trailers, pole trailers, flatbeds, and other specialty trailers

Responsibilities:

• Maintain the company’s gas- and diesel-powered fleet in safe, reliable operating condition.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil and filter changes, brakes, fluids, belts, batteries, tires, and general service.
• Regularly inspect vehicles and equipment to identify maintenance and safety concerns before they become larger problems.
• Schedule and track required inspections for company vehicles, equipment, and trailers.
• Ensure all vehicles and trailers remain current on required inspections and safe for operation.
• Diagnose and perform repairs on gas- and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment.
• Repair and replace hydraulic hoses and assist with troubleshooting hydraulic systems.
• Perform brake maintenance and repairs, including air brake systems.
• Perform tire changes and routine tire maintenance.
• Troubleshoot basic vehicle and equipment wiring and electrical issues.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs, and upcoming service requirements.
• Coordinate outside repairs or specialized service when necessary.
• Minimize equipment downtime by proactively identifying maintenance and repair needs.
• Maintain an organized work area and properly care for company tools and equipment.
• Communicate equipment condition and significant repair needs to management.
• Ensure the fleet is maintained according to company safety standards and applicable DOT requirements.

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of mechanical or fleet maintenance experience
• Hands-on experience with both gas and diesel vehicles/equipment
• Experience maintaining trucks, commercial vehicles, construction equipment, or a mixed fleet strongly preferred
• Working knowledge of preventive maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting
• Experience with brakes, including air brake systems
• Ability to perform basic electrical and wiring troubleshooting
• Ability to work with hydraulic hoses and basic hydraulic systems
• Valid driver’s license
• RI DOT medical card
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Ability to work independently and prioritize maintenance based on safety and operational needs
• Dependable, organized, and safety-focused

Preferred, But Not Required:

• CDL
• Welding experience — welding equipment is available
• Experience maintaining bucket trucks, digger derricks, cranes, excavators, skid steers, forklifts, or similar construction/utility equipment
